Homework Oct 31st --Friday Nov. 4th

There will be 3 parts-Mon., Tues., Wed. hw--staple them all together and hand them in on Thurs.

Mon.--Journal Entry: You are casting a movie about your life. Today, decide on a title, a genre, a budget, and a few of the top-billed cast members.
The movie doesn’t need to be a docudrama, but it can be one; it can also be a science fiction adventure (which your life may be, anyway).

Tues.--Journal Entry: Continuing the movie of your life, decide on a plot. Spend five minutes jotting down the plot outline of the story. What is/are the setting(s), what are the main events, etc.

Wed.--Journal Entry: To finish up the movie of your life, draft us a sample scene. Pick the opening shot, the climactic battle, or the final, tearful goodbye;
write out the action in the scene, the dialogue, etc., as if it were going to be performed.

Thurs.--Journal Entry: When have you been unfairly punished for something you did accidentally? Did you protest at the time? Did you complain later?
Was the situation every rectified?

Fri.--Journal Entry: To whom do you go when you’re in desperate need of help? Think of a time when you were in trouble, depressed, hurt, or
otherwise in need of aid; to whom did you go, and what did they do for you?

Journal on Betrayal--10-15 minutes, 3-4 paragraphs

*Think of a time when you felt that you were betrayed by someone you cared about?
*Why did you consider it a betrayal?--
*What was your reaction? Were you surprised by this person's behavior?
*How did this conflict conclude?
*How has this experience changed the way you think about things and/or people?

Homework Monday 10/24

A foil--two characters that are very different, pretty much opposites, placed together in a story to make visible their characteristics.

1. Describe how Unoka is used as a foil to show how opposite he and Okonkwo are.
2. Describe a set of foils you either know in real-life, or in other stories or movies.

Simile and Symbolism Review -----put in literary elements section----not hw!

Remember, a symbol is something that stands for something larger than itself:

****What does the sentence on pg. 22 mean when the narrator compares Onkonkwo's supporting of his father's house to "pouring grains of corn into a bag full of holes"?

Hw #2: Things Fall Apart---15 pts.

In ch. 2, pg. 13 the narrator states Onkonkwo's fear "lay deep within himself"... "It was the fear of himself, lest he should be found to resemble his father."

1.What internal conflict is Onkonkwo having? Do you think he will be able to resolve it? What kind of person has he proven himself to be so far?

2. Have you ever struggled to be the person you wanted to be? Or the reverse---struggled against being the person people thought you would be? Explain.

3. Do you think it is difficult for kids to either be like, or unlike their parents? Why?

Explain the following 2 quotes from the novel in your own words. Then, give an example from either real-life or fiction that shows it to be true.
