Homework #3: 20 pts.
For homework tonight, use page 1 of the chart we completed today in class to write min. 2 paragraphs comparing and contrasting Unoka and Okonkwo. Make sure you use adjectives and examples (with page #s) in your response.

Answer:
Unoka would be described as a lazy and unsuccessful type of person. We know this because we hear he had a lot of debts and doesn't try too hard to do anything. On page 5, the narrator calls him a "failure." Also, it is stated that when he died he had "no title at all" (8).

Hw Ch. 2: Things Fall Apart --15 pts.
In ch. 2, pg. 13 the narrator states Onkonkwo's fear "lay deep within himself"... "It was the fear of himself, lest he should be found to resemble his father."
1.What internal conflict is Onkonkwo having? Do you think he will be able to resolve it? What kind of person has he proven himself to be so far?
2. What do you predict will happen to Okonkwo's behavior when he feels he is being like his father or that those around him are? Why would you say this?
3. Have you ever struggled to be the person you wanted to be? Or the reverse---struggled against being the person people thought you would be? Explain.

Quilt assignment to be finished in class today--40 pts.
1. Write a response to the following questions:
---If you were to make a family quilt like the family had in "Everyday Use," what would you put in it? Explain why you would choose these things and what significance they hold in your life. For example--a piece of my mother's wedding dress because.... You should have at least 5-6 items in your quilt. Your response should be in paragraphs and be a min. of 1-2 pages long.
2. Design your quilt using the paper and pencils provided. Clearly label the 5-6 items you described in your paragraphs.

1. In your opinion, what theme or message is the author conveying through the story?

Choose 1 of the 2 Assignments---Due Wed.
1. Make an advertisement for "Time Safari Inc."
Make a poster, flier, magazine posting inviting hunters to venture across time to hunt prehistoric creatures. Try to convince readers that this adventure is worth the high price and that it is important for them to be responsible. (Make sure you have: color, pictures, contact info, price, etc.)
2. Write an incident report
Writing as Travis, compose a two paragraph report to your superiors in which you describe the main incident from the story, what you presume are the consequences and how you propose to make sure nothing like this happens again.
