Colloquial language--today's agenda

Colloquial language is the everyday language we use in conversation. It is sometimes ungrammatical and may contain slang words and phrases. It varies from place to place and among different groups of people. The author tries to give you the experience of western ranch life in this way. For example, in today's reading, George asks Slim, "Are we gonna get canned now?" (meaning fired/lose their job).

Today, we are going to do some silent reading so that I can individually conference with each of you on your progress so far. You will not have a written assignment, only to finish the chapter 3 worksheet and make vocabulary flashcards for the 15 words from OF MICE AND MEN--they will be on the quiz next week.
