Homework #3: 20 pts.

For homework tonight, use page 1 of the chart we completed today in class to write min. 2 paragraphs comparing and contrasting Unoka and Okonkwo. Make sure you use adjectives and examples (with page #s) in your response.

Please Copy the following information into your notes:

How to answer a question completely (and get full-credit):

1. Restate the question (not rewrite it)
2. Give an answer
2. Give an example from the text citing page/line # when possible (or real-life if called for)
3. Explain--how does your example show your answer is correct?
4. Make sure you answer ALL parts of the question.

Example:
1. How would you describe Unoka? Explain your answer.

Answer:
Unoka would be described as a lazy and unsuccessful type of person. We know this because we hear he had a lot of debts and doesn't try too hard to do anything. On page 5, the narrator calls him a "failure." Also, it is stated that when he died he had "no title at all" (8).

Hw Ch. 2: Things Fall Apart --15 pts.

In ch. 2, pg. 13 the narrator states Onkonkwo's fear "lay deep within himself"... "It was the fear of himself, lest he should be found to resemble his father."

1.What internal conflict is Onkonkwo having? Do you think he will be able to resolve it? What kind of person has he proven himself to be so far?

2. What do you predict will happen to Okonkwo's behavior when he feels he is being like his father or that those around him are? Why would you say this?

3. Have you ever struggled to be the person you wanted to be? Or the reverse---struggled against being the person people thought you would be? Explain.
