Question/Answer Relationships

Please Copy the following Notes into your Literature Section/Daily Notes:

Question Types—

“Right There”--The answer is in the text. The words used to make up the question and words used to answer the question are found in the same sentence. (Not always an Explain)

“Think and Search”-- The answer comes from different places in the selection. You will need to look back at the passage, find the information that the question refers to, and then think about how the information or ideas fit together.

“Author and Me”-- These type questions require you to use ideas and information not stated directly in the passage to answer; so, you must think about what you have read and formulate your own ideas or opinions.

“On My Own”--The answer is not in the text. You can answer the question without even reading the text. The answer is based solely on your own experiences and knowledge. (**No Textual Evidence)

Homework: (copy at the bottom of the worksheet if you want to): due Fri. 9/19, 25 pts.

Use your Venn Diagram to write a PARAGRAPHED RESPONSE (2-3) comparing and contrasting Waverly Jong’s and Mrs. Jong’s: cultural backgrounds, personalities, ideas about chess, and hopes and dreams for Waverly. (You will need the back of this worksheet for tomorrow and for the quiz Monday so don’t lose it). If you need help copy the basic set-up of a compare/contrast:

Par 1: Similarities                              ------or---              Par 1: Waverly

Par 2: Differences                                                              Par 2: Mrs. Jong
